Reverend Ed Bentley will be joining us as guest speaker for the 124th anniversary of Smithfield Church.

Reverend Ed Bentley was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and raised in Toronto. Ordained in 1973 by the Toronto Conference of The United Church of Canada, he has served faithfully in pastoral ministry for over 40 years, including congregations in Nova Scotia, Bobcaygeon-Dunsford, and most notably at Eastminster United Church in Belleville from 1983 to 2014. Since retirement, he has continued to serve in transitional ministry, including helping to facilitate the formation of Trenton United Church and serving congregations in Wellington and Belleville.

Rev. Bentley has also provided extensive leadership within the wider church and community, serving as President of Bay of Quinte Conference, Chair of Belleville Presbytery, and as a commissioner to several General Councils. Beyond ministry, he has been deeply involved in mental health, poverty reduction, and community care initiatives throughout the Quinte region. He is also an author, columnist, and co-host of the radio program Table Talk. Rev. Bentley and his late wife Betty have been blessed with six children, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
